Transferring Calls

In this Article, we will be discussing Transferring Calls, the difference between a Supervised/Warm transfer and an Unsupervised/Cold transfer, how to transfer a call, and how to transfer a call straight to voicemail. Let’s get started.

Transferring a call is very useful in a daily work environment, and with your new Vested Networks VoIP phone system, you have several options on how you want to transfer the call. When transferring a call, you must first decide if you want to make a supervised or warm transfer or an unsupervised or cold transfer.

Supervised / Warm Transfer

A Supervised or Warm transfer is a feature allows you to talk to the receiving party before you transfer the call to them. Meaning you can inform the receiving party about the call and what it pertains to before the caller is transferred to the receiving party without the caller hearing the conversation. This can be performed on both desk phones and cordless phones. To perform a supervised/warm transfer take the following steps:

  1. While in an active call, press the TRAN key (which will place the active call on hold and open a new line)
  2. Enter the extension (or external number) to where you want to transfer the call.
  3. Now, wait for the target extension to answer the call. **Note** There will be a brief pause before the call connects. To avoid this pause you may press the # key to dial immediately. You can talk to that person prior to sending them the call.
  4. Press the TRAN key again and hang up, to complete the transfer.

Unsupervised / Cold Transfer

An Unsupervised or Cold transfer is a feature will send the calling party to the target number without notice. Meaning you will be transferring the call straight to the receiving party with no prior conversation. As with the supervised/warm transfer, this can be performed on both the desk phones and cordless phones. To perform an unsupervised/cold transfer take the following steps:

  1. Enter the extension (or external number) to where you want to transfer the call.
  2. Press the Tran key again and hang up to complete the transfer.

Transfer to Voicemail

Another useful feature when it comes to transferring calls is to transfer a call directly to voicemail. This feature is as how it sounds sending a caller to a voicemail, whether it be your voicemail or another users voicemail. To perform a transfer to voicemail, take the following steps:

  1. While on an active call, press the TRAN key (which will place the active call on hold and open a new line)
  2. Dial 7 + the extension of where you want to transfer the call. (Ex: dial 7101 for ext 101's voicemail)
  3. Press the TRAN key again and hang up to complete the transfer.
